Who is eligible to enroll in this program?
All children in grades K-5 (or homeschool equivalent) are welcome to participate in Religious Education. For First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, children who have been baptized in the Catholic Church, have reached the age of reason (around seven years old), are at least in second grade and have participated in Religious Education for a minimum of two years. Older children who are in need of receiving the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion may also enroll. The families of those enrolled should be registered members of St. Augustine Church.
Is there a fee for this program?
No. Access to the sacraments is a fundamental right of every Catholic.
Does my child need anything for this program?
Yes. Your child will need access to a Catholic Bible. Religious Education books will be provided as part of the program.
What is needed to register my child for this program?
A completed registration form by the 1st of October.
The registration form can be filled out online or a paper copy may be picked up at the front desk
A copy of the child’s Baptism Certificate
When does this program take place?
The classes for this program are held Sunday mornings in between the 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Masses (approximately 10:15-11:25 a.m.).
What am I committing to?
Attending Sunday Mass every week
Attending all the Sunday Sacramental Preparation classes
Helping your child to complete any assignments
Who are the teachers in our program?
The catechists (religion teachers) for the children are volunteers who willingly give of their time and energy. Being a Student Center we are blessed to have many University and College student volunteers. All of our catechists meet regularly with the Sacramental Prep Coordinator and go through catechist training.
